Practice consistent crate training introducing your puppy to their crate in a positive way is essential for nighttime crating success. you want your puppy to feel safe, secure, and happy when they're in the crate. and you certainly don't want them viewing it as any form of punishment or associating it with feeling isolated.. Even if your puppy cries for hours, don’t react to it. don’t reward that behavior. it’s very difficult to go through that but in the end, it’s definitely worth it. this also applies to crate training during the day. you can read more about crate training in my blog how to crate train a puppy in 9 easy steps.. So do be prepared in the initial stages of crate training your puppy at night to get up one to three times during the night to let him go to his litter tray or outside. you may also wish to line the crate with paper just in case your pet does end up relieving himself inside the cage..
Expect mid-night toilet breaks for the first four to eight weeks. during your puppy’s first couple of weeks, focus on the crate training outlined above during the day. as he gets confident with crate training during the day, you can start to move his crate further and further away from you in the evening.. Just make sure the training has been a total success if the dog still cannot control its bladder (or it has a limited capacity — puppies, for instance, may need to “go” every half hour or so), it will find its crate stay rather unsettling. the same goes if it’s isolated and thus fearful of sleeping alone.. Every puppy we’ve crate trained has been different. we’ve had some do very well at 7/8 weeks in the crate doing exactly as you said and taking them out every 3 hours or so for potty breaks at night. however, other puppies require a slower approach like what is outlined in the article..
