Depression in dogs

A quarter of Britains dogs are suffering from depression because of the stress of being left alone while their owners are at work, a new study has found.  Dogs whose owners work particularly long hours or are way from home for long periods display particularly visible signs of distress – including pacing, spinning on the spot, howling, defecating and even self-harming.
Dr John Bradshaw explained if dogs are trained to interact with humans, they can then find it difficult when they dont have that interaction during the working day.
He explained: "Dogs have a very powerful link to humans. You can train a dog to do all sorts of things and understand our gestures.”
A documentary on the subject will be shown on Channel 4 later this year.
